Seu agent chama LLM (caixa preta). Blind.

A realidade escura:

Sua SaaS tem um agent rodando.

Agent calls Claude, GPT, Mistral (via API).

You think:

"Agent is working. Clients are happy. Everything is fine."

Reality:

Question: "How much did the agent cost last month?" Your answer: "I... don't know. OpenAI sent a bill. It was big."

Question: "Why was the bill so high?" Your answer: "I... don't know. I don't track per-request costs."

Question: "Is the agent slow?" Your answer: "Maybe? I can't measure latency per LLM call."

Question: "Where does customer data go?" Your answer: "To OpenAI / Anthropic. I hope they don't train on it."

Question: "Can you audit what the agent sent to LLM?" Your answer: "No. It goes straight to their API. I can't intercept."

Question: "What if we have compliance rules (GDPR, LGPD)?" Your answer: "We're probably violating them. Can't prove we're not."

Welcome to blind deployment.

You built an agent.

You can't see what it's doing.

You can't control it.

You can't measure it.

You can't secure it.

The blind spot (why it happens)

Agent architecture (current)

Typical setup:

Your agent (on your server) ↓ OpenAI API (black box) ↓ LLM response ↓ Your agent processes response ↓ Customer gets answer

What you see: ✓ Agent code (yours) ✓ Agent response (yours) ✓ Customer interaction (yours)

What you DON'T see: ✗ LLM request (sent directly to OpenAI) ✗ LLM latency (hidden by API) ✗ Cost per request (aggregated monthly bill) ✗ Data handling (where does it go? Logged? Trained?) ✗ Errors (LLM failures, rate limits, timeouts) ✗ Performance (model speed, token usage, etc) ✗ Compliance (GDPR, data residency, etc)

The problem (what you can't see)

Cost blindness:

Scenario: Your agent makes 10,000 requests/day

You think: "Claude costs $3/1M input tokens, $15/1M output tokens. Average request: 500 input + 200 output tokens. Cost per request: $0.002 Daily: $20 Monthly: $600"

Reality: Month 1: Bill = $600 (OK) Month 2: Bill = $2,400 (4x increase!)

What happened?

  • Customers using agent more (10,000 → 40,000 requests/day)
  • OR: Agent making longer requests (500 → 2000 tokens)
  • OR: Agent making more LLM calls per request (1 → 3 calls)
  • OR: Some customers abusing agent (100 requests at once)
  • OR: Model price changed (you don't know)
  • OR: You hit rate limit, requests are retrying (hidden cost)

Problem: You don't know WHICH of these happened. You can't optimize. You can't predict costs. You can't budget.

Result: LLM cost is 50% of your revenue (margin gone). You find out at EOY (too late to fix).

Latency blindness:

Your agent slow (customers complaining).

You investigate: "Is it my code?" "Is it database?" "Is it network?"

You add monitoring (APM tool = Datadog, New Relic).

Metrics show:

  • Agent processing: 50ms
  • Database: 20ms
  • Network: 10ms
  • Total measured: 80ms

But:

  • Customers report: "Took 5 seconds"
  • Actual latency: 5000ms
  • Missing: 4920ms (5000 - 80 = 4920)

Where did 4920ms go? → LLM call (hidden) → You can't measure it (goes to OpenAI, not your code) → You can't optimize it (it's their servers, not yours)

Result: Agent is slow (not your fault, theirs). You blame yourself (actually LLM latency). You optimize wrong things (database, when LLM is bottleneck).

Data security blindness:

Your agent handles customer PII:

  • Customer name
  • Email
  • Phone
  • Purchase history
  • Address

Agent sends query to Claude: "Customer John Doe (john@example.com) wants refund"

Question: Where does this data go? ✓ To Anthropic's servers? YES ✓ Logged? PROBABLY ✓ Used for training? MAYBE (terms say no, but...) ✓ Shared with partners? UNKNOWN ✓ Stored forever? UNKNOWN

Your compliance checklist: ✗ GDPR compliant? UNKNOWN (you didn't check) ✗ LGPD compliant (Brazil)? UNKNOWN (you didn't check) ✗ Data residency (EU data stay in EU)? UNKNOWN (probably not) ✗ Can you delete customer data? NO (it's in their system) ✗ Can you audit data flow? NO (it's a black box)

Result: You're probably violating GDPR/LGPD. You don't know (can't prove compliance). If regulator audits you? Fined ($millions).

The solution: LLM proxy (observability)

What is an LLM proxy?

High-level:

LLM proxy = middleware between your agent and LLM provider

Before (blind): Agent → OpenAI API (black box) → Response

After (with proxy): Agent → Your LLM proxy (your server) → OpenAI API → Response ↓ (logs, measures, audits)

What it does:

  1. Intercepts all LLM requests
  2. Logs them (what was sent)
  3. Measures latency (how long it took)
  4. Tracks cost (how much it costs)
  5. Audits data (is it compliant?)
  6. Routes intelligently (cheapest model, fastest route)
  7. Retries/caches (optimize cost + latency)
  8. Rate limits (prevent abuse)
  9. Modifies requests (redact PII, enforce policies)
  10. Fallback models (if OpenAI down, use Claude)

The magic (what changes)

Cost visibility:

With LLM proxy: Dashboard shows: - Cost per request: $0.002 - Requests per day: 10,000 - Daily cost: $20 - Cost per customer: $0.50/day - Most expensive queries: [list] - Cheapest model for this query: Claude (not GPT)

Action: "Switch to Claude for 50% cost saving" Result: Monthly cost $600 → $300

Visibility = savings

Latency visibility:

With LLM proxy: Dashboard shows: - LLM latency: 2000ms (Claude) - LLM latency: 3000ms (GPT-4) - LLM latency: 500ms (Mistral)

Action: "Switch to Mistral for 75% latency improvement" Result: Agent response 5s → 1.2s

Visibility = faster agents

Data security:

With LLM proxy: Before sending to OpenAI, proxy can: 1. Detect PII (credit card, SSN, email) 2. Redact it (replace with [REDACTED]) 3. Log audit trail (who accessed what) 4. Enforce residency (keep data in Brazil if required) 5. Delete on demand (when customer requests right-to-be-forgotten)

Result: GDPR/LGPD compliant (provably) Data stays in your control (not OpenAI's) Audit trail exists (regulators happy)

Implementation (how to build)

Option A: Open-source proxy (DIY)

Popular tools:

  1. LiteLLM

    • Open source (MIT license)
    • Supports: 100+ models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, etc)
    • Features: Cost tracking, latency, fallbacks, caching
    • Setup: 1-2 hours
    • Cost: $0 (open source)
  2. Ollama

    • Run LLMs locally (self-hosted)
    • Supports: Open models (Llama, Mixtral, etc)
    • Features: Local inference (no API cost, no data leaving)
    • Setup: 30 minutes
    • Cost: $0 (open source) + GPU hardware
  3. Proxy.py

    • Generic HTTP proxy
    • DIY logging/metrics
    • Setup: 2-4 weeks (build custom)
    • Cost: $0 (open source) + your engineering time

Quick start (LiteLLM):

bash

1. Install

pip install litellm

2. Start proxy

litellm --model gpt-3.5-turbo

3. Call via proxy (instead of OpenAI directly)

curl http://localhost:8000/v1/chat/completions
-H "Content-Type: application/json"
-d '{ "model": "gpt-3.5-turbo", "messages": [{"role": "user", "content": "Hello"}] }'

4. Check logs (automatic)

Cost, latency, token usage = logged automatically

Option B: Managed proxy (easier)

Commercial options:

  1. Anthropic's Managed API

    • Proxy hosted by Anthropic
    • Features: Logging, cost tracking, rate limiting
    • Cost: Same as direct API (no markup)
    • Setup: 5 minutes
  2. OpenAI's Structured Outputs

    • Proxy + validation layer
    • Features: Schema enforcement, retries, audit logs
    • Cost: Same as direct API
    • Setup: 10 minutes
  3. Third-party (Helicone, Langsmith, etc)

    • Proxy as a service
    • Features: Analytics, testing, monitoring
    • Cost: $100-1000/month (depends on volume)
    • Setup: 30 minutes
  4. Your own infrastructure (easiest for SaaS)

    • Simple reverse proxy + logging
    • Features: Cost, latency, compliance tracking
    • Cost: Minimal (just your server)
    • Setup: 1-2 hours

Option C: Hybrid (recommended)

Best of both worlds:

Production: Agent → Your LLM proxy (logs, measures, audits) ↓ Smart routing: - 70% Claude (cheapest) - 20% GPT-4 (for complex queries) - 10% Mistral (for fast queries) ↓ LLM provider

Benefits: ✓ Cost optimized (70% cheaper) ✓ Latency optimized (pick fastest per query type) ✓ Fully compliant (PII redacted, audit trail) ✓ Resilient (if Claude down, fallback to GPT) ✓ Your control (data stays in proxy, not provider)

Real-world impact (what changes)

Case 1: Cost discovery

Before (blind):

CEO: "Why is LLM bill $10,000/month?" You: "I... don't know. We're using Claude for agent." CEO: "That seems high. Can we optimize?" You: "I can't see per-request costs. No visibility." CEO: "Then how do we know if agent is efficient?" You: "We... don't."

After (with proxy):

CEO: "Why is LLM bill $10,000/month?" You: "Let me check the proxy dashboard." [Opens dashboard] You: "Found it. Agent is making 100k requests/day. Each request: 1000 input tokens, 500 output tokens. Using Claude ($3/$15). Costs $6.50/request. Alternative: Mistral same accuracy, $0.10/request. Cost reduction: 98%. Monthly savings: $9,800." CEO: "Do it." [5 minutes later: Cost drops $10k → $200/month]

Case 2: Compliance discovered

Before (blind):

Regulator: "Are you GDPR compliant?" You: "Yes, we are." Regulator: "Prove it. Show audit trail of data." You: "We... can't. LLM provider has the data, not us." Regulator: "You're non-compliant. Fine: €10,000,000."

After (with proxy):

Regulator: "Are you GDPR compliant?" You: "Yes. Let me show audit trail." [Opens proxy logs] You: "Here's every request sent to LLM. Here's PII redaction (credit card masked). Here's deletion log (when customer asked to be forgotten). Here's data residency (all EU data stays in EU)." Regulator: "You're compliant. Proceed."

Case 3: Performance optimized

Before (blind):

Customer: "Agent is slow." You: "Let me check." [Measures app latency: 500ms] You: "Looks fast to me." Customer: "It takes 5 seconds!" You: "I... don't know why. Must be your connection." [Truth: LLM latency 4500ms, you didn't measure it]

After (with proxy):

Customer: "Agent is slow." You: "Let me check." [Opens proxy dashboard] You: "Found it. LLM latency 4500ms (99% of slowness). Using Claude (slow). Switching to Mistral (2x faster)." [Changes model in proxy] You: "Done. Should be 3x faster now." Customer: "Wow, it's instant now!"

Why it matters (existential)

Current state (blind deployment):

You built an agent. You can't see inside it. You can't measure it. You can't control it. You can't secure it.

It's like:

  • Shipping product without QA
  • Running business without accounting
  • Flying plane without instruments

Dangerous. Unsustainable. Non-compliant.

LLM cost spirals. Agent latency increases (why? unknown). Data leaks (GDPR violation). Regulator audits (fined).

Then you wonder: "Why is agent unprofitable?" Answer: "You never looked."

Future state (with proxy):

You built an agent. You can see inside it (request logs). You can measure it (cost, latency). You can control it (route, cache, redact). You can secure it (audit trail, compliance).

Result:

  • Agent cost: -80% (optimized)
  • Agent latency: -60% (switched model)
  • Compliance: ✓ GDPR/LGPD verified
  • Profitability: ✓ Margin restored

Then you think: "Why didn't I do this earlier?"

Conclusion: Stop being blind

Your agent is calling LLMs (right now).

You can't see it.

You can't control it.

You can't measure it.

You can't secure it.

This is a problem.

Solution: Deploy LLM proxy (this week).

Effort: 2-4 hours

Value: Thousands of dollars/month (cost savings)

Bonus: GDPR compliance + performance visibility

Start today.

Your agent's future depends on it.

→ OpenClaw: LLM Proxy, observability, cost control, compliance, agent monitoring, latency tracking, data security, audit trail, GDPR/LGPD

Sua infraestrutura de agent acaba de ganhar visibilidade 👁️
